Membracel -Regenerative Porous Membrane
Distributed throughout the Caribbean by Blessing Health Innovation (BHI) Membracel is a special wound care dressing that acts as a temporary replacement of the skin accelerating the healing process. The membrane’s pores allow excess exudate (secretions from wound) to drain into a secondary dressing, thereby providing optimal moisture levels at the wound bed. Additionally, the wound care dressing allows for the gas exchange, which plays an important role in the healing process.
RECOMMENDED USE
RECOMMENDED USE
Membracel is suitable for injury treatments resulting from the loss of epithelium that are characterized as superficial or deep wounds with little or abundant exudation, such as:
– Second-degree burns
– Excoriation
– Pressure Injuries
– Venous Leg Ulcers (VLU)
– Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU)
– Surgical wounds
– Lesions caused by epidermolysis bullosa (EB)
– Skin Tears
– Acute Wounds
– Chronic Wounds
– Skin graft (donor and recipient sites)
CONTRAINDICATIONS
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Membracel should not be used to control bleeding, tunnel lesions, malignant lesions or suspected malignancy.
BENEFITS OF APPLYING MEMBRACEL
BENEFITS OF APPLYING MEMBRACEL
- Accelerates the healing process: Membracel is able to promote the development of granulation tissue which is an essential stage in the healing process.
- Relieves pain: The membrane reduces the wound’s exposed area by up to 95%, isolating nerve endings and relieving pain immediately upon being applied.
- Daily change of Membracel is not required: Membracel is a wound care dressing designed for long-term use, it does not need to be changed frequently. In addition to contributing to patients’ health and well-being, less frequent changing of the dressing helps prevent trauma to newly formed tissue while maintaining the integrity of the granulation tissue.
- Wound protection: Membracel acts as a physical barrier, significantly reducing the wound’s unprotected area and preventing contamination from external agents.
- No adverse reactions: Membracel is a non-toxic and inert product that does not cause allergic reactions when coming into contact with the skin.
- Contains pores: The membrane’s pores allow excess exudate (secretions from wound) to drain into a secondary dressing, thereby maintaining optimal moisture levels at the wound. Additionally, the pores allow for the gas exchange, which is a key aspect of the healing process.

AVAILABLE SIZES
AVAILABLE SIZES
The correct choice of Membracel is crucial for the success in the treatment of lesions. To do this, adopt the following procedures:
CHOICE OF SIZE:
Take the size of the wound into consideration to choose the ideal size of the membrane, which should cover the entire exposed area of the lesion, exceeding its edges in at least 1 cm.
HOW CAN I SELECT THE RIGHT MEMBRACEL?
HOW CAN I SELECT THE RIGHT MEMBRACEL?
For an effective treatment, it is essential to choose the membrane correctly. The following procedures will help ensure that you choose the right Membracel:
• Choice of size: it is important to consider the size of the wound to choose the most suitable size, so that Membracel covers the entire exposed injury area exceeding by at least 1 cm (1/3 in) beyond its edges.
• The following shapes and sizes are available:
Circular membranes: 5 cm, and 8 cm
Rectangular membranes: 5 x 7.5 cm | 7.5 x 10 cm | 10 x 15 cm |15 x 20 cm
• Selecting the correct pore size:
Consider either the type of wound, characteristics, and volume of existing exudate of the wound to choose the ideal pore size: medium (1 to 2mm) – indicated for low and / or moderate exudation; large (2 to 3mm) – indicated in cases of abundant and / or thick exudation.
HOW LONG CAN MEMBRACEL REMAIN ON THE WOUND?
HOW LONG CAN MEMBRACEL REMAIN ON THE WOUND?
The Membracel is a long-term dressing and can remain at the injury site for between 5 and 12 days. However, the period of time for which membranes will remain in place varies according to the characteristics of the wound and recommendations from the health care professional monitoring treatment. The porous membrane may be maintained for up to 12 days, provided there is no detachment, rupture, signs of infection, acute pain, fetid odor, or bad smell.Membracel also offers an excellent cost-benefit ratio, since the membrane requires less frequent changing, reducing the overall cost of treatment.
